Meet Preach Sista’s Pastor for Social Justice

On Saturday, May 9, 2026 as part of the 25th annual Preach Sista Fresh Anointing Conference, Sharon Smith was officially commissioned as a Pastor for Social Justice.
Sharon is a woman of strong faith and a possess a strong belief that advocating for the marginalized and seeking justice for the oppressed are areas that Christians are called to as ambassadors of Christ. So what does a Pastor of Social Justice do? Keep reading.
The Pastor for Social Justice will provide spiritual leadership, pastoral presence, advocacy, and prayerful support in moments of communal grief, racial tension, inequity, and social concern.
This volunteer role calls for someone deeply rooted in Christian faith, committed to anti-racism, and gifted in building bridges across lines of difference. This volunteer leader works collaboratively with the leadership of Preach Sista to nurture spaces where truth, healing, hope, and justice can flourish.
Core Responsibilities
Presence with the Affected Community
Be physically, spiritually, and relationally present with communities experiencing injustice, grief, trauma, or marginalization.
Attend vigils, community gatherings, worship services, protests, and healing events when appropriate.
Listen deeply to the stories and experiences of impacted individuals and communities.
Help create sacred spaces for lament, reflection, healing, and hope.
Advocacy
Speak prophetically and compassionately on issues related to justice, equity, and human dignity.
Support initiatives that address racism, sexism, poverty, violence, and systemic inequities.
Encourage faithful civic engagement rooted in Christian values.
Collaborate with community organizations, clergy, and leaders working toward justice and reconciliation.
Pastoral Care
Offer spiritual encouragement and pastoral support to individuals and families affected by injustice or crisis.
Provide a ministry of presence during difficult community moments.
Help connect individuals to additional spiritual, emotional, or community resources when needed.
Model care that is compassionate, nonjudgmental, and trauma-aware.
Prayer Support
Lead and cultivate prayer initiatives connected to justice, healing, reconciliation, and peace.
Offer public and private prayer during community crises or moments of collective grief.
Help integrate prayer and spiritual practices into justice-centered ministry efforts.
Encourage spiritual resilience rooted in faith and hope.
Bear Witness
Courageously acknowledge injustice and suffering while proclaiming the hope and justice of God.
Help the community tell the truth about harm, inequity, and exclusion.
Amplify voices that are often unheard or overlooked.
Encourage faithful remembrance, accountability, and healing.
Bridge Builder
Foster relationships across racial, cultural, denominational, and generational divides.
Help facilitate courageous conversations grounded in dignity, humility, and grace.
Encourage unity without avoiding truth-telling.
Support collaborative partnerships that strengthen community healing and reconciliation.
